Occupational therapy for older people
Getting older brings changes. Sometimes you may notice that everyday activities take more time or energy than they used to. Activities that used to come naturally may become more difficult due to changes in fitness, balance, memory, stamina or health.
You may notice that housework is becoming more difficult, you feel less confident when moving around, you tire more quickly, or you have started to avoid certain activities. Changes following an illness, a hospital admission or the loss of independence may affect how you spend your day.
Occupational therapy helps older people to continue carrying out daily activities as independently, safely and comfortably as possible. In doing so, we focus not only on what has become difficult, but rather on what is still possible and what remains important to you.
What do we offer?
Occupational therapy for older people focuses on helping you continue to function independently in daily life and maintain activities that are important to you.
During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:
- how daily activities are carried out at home;
- how much energy activities cost and how this is distributed spread throughout the day be;
- independence in care, household chores en mobility;
- safety and practical facilities in the home environment;
- ways of carrying out activities more easily, more safely or with less strain.
Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, skills training, energy management, assistive devices, home adaptations or support in reorganising daily routines.

We will then look together at how activities are carried out in practice. Sometimes we do this whilst you are going about your daily routine, or we observe how your home environment affects what you do. Based on this, we will look for solutions that suit your situation and wishes.

Collaboration with other healthcare providers
As people get older, several factors often come into play at the same time. That is why our occupational therapists work alongside other care providers at Rondom where necessary.
Depending on your situation, this could, for example, be a physiotherapist, lifestyle coach, psychologist, podiatrist or another practitioner. Where appropriate, we also involve informal carers or loved ones. In this way, we work together to provide support that fits in with your daily life.
