Spreading your energy throughout the day or week
Do you find that your energy runs out quickly? Perhaps you start the day well, but by halfway through you’re already exhausted. Or on a good day you do too much and then need a long time to recover. Managing your energy is tricky when your capacity varies. Yet managing it better can make a big difference. Energy isn’t just needed for major tasks. Even showering, travelling, talking, working, thinking and dealing with stimuli take up energy. If you don’t take this into account, you’ll become overloaded more quickly.

What do you notice?
Struggling to manage your energy can become a pattern.
You may, for example, notice that:
- you experience peaks and troughs in your energy levels;
- you need time to recover after busy days;
- you postpone tasks until you have no other choice;
- you do too much on good days;
- you have little energy left for fun things;
- you find it difficult to plan;
- you become irritable when you are tired;
- you take a rest when it is actually already too late;
- you start to feel unsure about what you can cope with.
Sometimes it feels as though your energy levels are unpredictable. Yet there are often patterns to be discovered.
