The Rondom Lopen Group is launching an innovative AI integration into its electronic patient record system to deliver more efficient podiatric care
Walking contributes to better health, both physically and mentally. To create more opportunities for walking, public authorities, civil society organisations, private organisations and research institutions from various fields are working together on the National Walking Masterplan.

**Due to the ageing population, the number of people requiring care is increasing faster than the number of care workers. The Netherlands faces the challenge of providing as many people as possible with the necessary care and support using the available healthcare professionals. Reducing administrative burdens is crucial in this regard. Care workers must be able to devote as much time as possible to direct care rather than administrative tasks. To reduce administrative burdens, we at the Rondom Lopen Group have launched an innovative AI integration into our electronic patient system.**
The AI integration has been rolled out in collaboration with our data partner Stofloos. Based on variables entered by the podiatrist following a podiatric examination, the AI technology can automatically generate an appropriate conclusion. This conclusion is more accurate and specific than a handwritten version, as it is tailored seamlessly to the individual case. Following a mandatory review by the podiatrist, the conclusion can be used to report back to referring practitioners. The AI integration fully complies with all security and privacy requirements, and no personal data is shared.
Sepp Mortelmans, Director of Care at Rondom Podiatrists (part of the Rondom Lopen Group), has been working on AI integration over the past few weeks with colleague Wietske Hiddink, functional manager of the Rondom Lopen Group, and Lenn Tjin-A-Sie, owner of Stofloos.
“Integrating AI into our electronic patient record to generate conclusions based on variables that have actually been entered, marks significant progress in reducing the administrative burden, optimising podiatry care and increasing job satisfaction amongst our practitioners,” said Mortelmans. “The next step is to utilise this technology for drafting medical reports.”
Lenn Tjin-A-Sie adds: “By using standardised selections and drop-down options instead of free text input, we ensure that no sensitive information can be entered accidentally. In addition, all variables used are strictly monitored by administrators and additional security checks are built in, which contributes to the privacy and security of patient data. In the future, we see AI as a crucial player in healthcare, which will not only reduce administrative tasks but also improve the quality and speed of care delivery.”
