OnsPsychologie is a dynamic and rapidly growing psychology practice based in Eindhoven. At present, it employs an enthusiastic team of (GZ) psychologists and remedial educationalists who strive to strengthen the individual’s resilience (and that of the system surrounding them) in order to jointly alleviate psychosocial problems and enhance self-awareness.

OnsPsychologie has entered into a unique partnership with Diabeter Centrum Amsterdam (DCA), a treatment centre for children, young people and adults that provides specialist care for people with type 1 diabetes. Everything revolves around its mission: a life without complications. This is achieved by combining personalised care with specialist knowledge and the latest treatment methods.

As part of the partnership between OnsPsychologie and DCA, you will work as a (basic/clinical) psychologist with children, young people, their parents and/or adults. Our approach is personalised, caring and positive. Together, we look at the root causes of the symptoms and challenges. We provide the necessary tools, guidance and skills to tackle these challenges and thereby alleviate the symptoms. The programmes are mainly delivered as locally as possible, but outreach work is certainly an option. You will receive supervision and work guidance from OnsPsychologie. Working through DCA, you will be based on site (1 to 2 days per week), working closely with the diabetes teams comprising doctors, nurses, dietitians and medical assistants.

Profile

Completed a Master’s degree in (medical) psychology;
Demonstrable affinity with and experience in mental healthcare/medical psychology; including standard treatment methods such as cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy;
Strong communication skills and the ability to build a relationship of trust;
A creative and flexible mindset, focused on finding effective solutions without losing sight of empathy;
Experience with type 1 diabetes is an advantage;
You work in accordance with the NIP’s code of practice;
You are energetic, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude.

What will you be doing?

Engaging with and sharing knowledge within DCA’s multidisciplinary consultations;
Treatment of children/young people and/or adults with a focus on the wider context;
Short-term psychosocial treatment interventions for people with diabetes;
Issues directly related to blood glucose levels: behavioural problems, sleep problems (in close collaboration with the primary diabetes team);
Adjustment problems: difficulties with integration into daily life; coping issues; diabetes burnout; adapting to technology;
General emotional problems: Symptoms of low mood, stress and anxiety (if closely linked to diabetes);
Diabetes-specific issues: fear of injections, fear of hospitals, fear of hypoglycaemia, fear of hyperglycaemia, fear of complications, diabetes-specific trauma symptoms, eating problems (including intentional insulin omission), hypoglycaemia addiction, sexual problems;
Other psychological issues closely linked to diabetes: negative self-image, perfectionism, over-control;
System support: In paediatrics, treating the family as a system when managing diabetes;
Consultation service for referrals to external organisations (including mental health services and clinical rehabilitation);
