Trauma
Some experiences continue to have an impact for longer than you might like. You may find that memories resurface, that you are more easily startled, or that you avoid situations that remind you of the event.
Sometimes it feels as though your body remains on high alert, even after the event has passed. Trauma-related symptoms can have a significant impact on how you feel, sleep, think and interact with other people.

What is it?
Trauma can arise following an event that was extremely intense, threatening or overwhelming. This may have been a one-off event, but it could also be something that has been going on for some time. Examples include violence, an accident, loss, bullying, abuse or prolonged feelings of insecurity.
We refer to trauma symptoms when the experience continues to cause symptoms. Your body and mind then continue to react to what has happened.
Some people experience symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder. This is also known as PTSD.
