Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is a component of treatment that helps you gain a better understanding of mental health issues, emotions and behaviour. By better understanding what is happening and why you feel or react in a certain way, you often gain a clearer perspective and a greater sense of control.
Psycho-education focuses on increasing knowledge and self-awareness and helps you to cope better with the challenges of everyday life. Your family and friends can also be involved in this process, so that there is greater understanding and you can receive better support.

When can psychoeducation help?
Psychoeducation can help if you need to gain insight into yourself, your symptoms or the treatment you are receiving. Understanding what is going on can help you to recognise situations more easily and deal with them more consciously.
Psycho-education may, for example, be appropriate for:
- questions about mental health issues and how they arise or persist;
- a better understanding of thoughts, feelings and behaviour;
- coping with stress, anxiety or difficult situations;
- learning to recognise and regulate emotions;
- improving communication and contact with others;
- a need for more knowledge and practical guidance for yourself and those around you.
