Adult diagnostics
Are you struggling with mental health issues, or do you find that certain patterns keep recurring? And is it unclear what is causing this or what might help you moving forward? In that case, diagnostic assessment can help you gain a better understanding.
Together with you, we will investigate which factors are affecting your symptoms and your day-to-day functioning. In doing so, we look beyond just a possible diagnosis. The aim is to gain a better understanding of what is going on and to determine which treatment or next steps are appropriate.
What is diagnostics in adults?
Diagnostics are tests that help to gain a better understanding of your symptoms and the factors that influence them.
Sometimes you have a clear research question. For example, because you want to better understand where certain symptoms or patterns come from, or because previous support has not been helpful enough. But often the question is broader, and you mainly want to better understand what affects your day-to-day functioning.
During the assessment, we do not merely look at symptoms; rather, we focus on understanding how they are interrelated and which factors influence their onset or persistence. This provides greater insight into the situation and enables us to decide together which treatment or next steps are appropriate.
When might diagnostic testing be appropriate?
Diagnostic tests may be appropriate if you wish to gain a clearer understanding of your symptoms or if it is still unclear what the problem is. For example, in cases such as:
- concentration problems;
- problems with social interactions;
- problems with emotion regulation;
- problems with sensory processing;
- mood disorders, such as anxiety, low mood or low self-esteem;
- compulsive symptoms;
- a suspicion of an intellectual disability;
- a suspected case of ADHD, autism or another developmental disorder;
- a suspicion of a personality disorder.
During the registration and intake process, we will work with you to assess whether your request for help fits within the scope of our services. If your request does not match what we can offer, we will work with you to find a suitable next step.
