Rondom is participating in the National Walking Masterplan
Walking is important for health. It helps people to stay physically and mentally fit, and to participate actively in society. That is why government bodies, social organisations, businesses and research institutions are working together to National Walking Masterplan.
Rondom is also participating in the National Walking Masterplan. As a healthcare organisation, we have been committed to promoting good and healthy physical activity for many years. By participating in the National Walking Masterplan, we are helping to create a society in which people remain mobile for longer and can continue to participate independently in daily life.
According to Ellen Nuijten, director of Rondom, collaboration is key in this regard: ‘With initiatives of this kind, it is important that different sectors find common ground and learn to speak each other’s language. Together, we can achieve more than we can alone. We hope that more organisations in the healthcare sector will join this initiative.’
Rondom signs the National Walking Masterplan
More than 60 organisations signed the Master Plan that day. Rondom is also a partner in the National Walking Master Plan.
By signing the Master Plan, we are working together with other parties to create a healthier and more accessible environment for living and walking. The aim is to encourage people to walk more in their daily lives.
Space to walk
Since January 2024, dozens of organisations have been working together on the National Walking Masterplan. This is because walking has many benefits: it contributes to health, wellbeing, mobility and sustainability – not only for individuals, but also for society as a whole.
In the Netherlands, steps have already been taken in recent years to encourage walking. However, there is still much room for improvement. The National Walking Masterplan shows how walking can contribute to a healthier population and to solutions for societal challenges.
The Master Plan is now finalised. This document forms the basis for the further development and concrete actions of the Master Plan. The aim of the plan is to create more space for walking. That means space:
- In policy
- In how we think about mobility
- And literally on the street
About the outline document
The framework document sets out the basis of the National Walking Masterplan. Among other things, it states:
- What the ideal situation would look like in 2040
- How this aligns with national and international objectives and agreements
- What has happened in recent years regarding walking
- The current situation regarding walking in the Netherlands
- What the issues are
What is still missing is a clear action plan. This will be drawn up in the next phase.
Join us!
To ensure that the National Walking Masterplan is properly aligned with health and care, the input of healthcare organisations is important. That is why we are calling on other organisations in the healthcare sector to get involved. Examples include:
- Podiatrists
- Orthopaedic shoemakers
- General practitioners
- Physiotherapists
- Health centres
- Health insurers
- Umbrella organisations within the healthcare sector
Together, we can raise greater awareness of the importance of walking and contribute to a healthier society. There are two ways to get involved.
Active participation
Stakeholders are working together on specific actions for the National Walking Masterplan. This is taking place through a number of online and face-to-face meetings. At a later stage, participants will also help to implement these actions.
Remote consultation
Stakeholders can also contribute their ideas remotely. For example, by reviewing draft versions of the plan and providing feedback. They can also commit to one or more actions within the master plan.
