Scientific publication: A predictive model for falls in podiatry practice
- Date:
- January 2022

In short
An article has been published in the peer-reviewed international journal *Gerontology* on the development of a predictive model for falls among older people living at home within the podiatry practice. The research was conducted and reported by our researcher Danique van Gulick, in collaboration with fellow researchers from Amsterdam UMC.
Our study shows that a model based on four factors – history of falls, a sense of instability, walking speed and toe strength – can be easily applied within the podiatry practice and is capable of predicting the risk of a fall in the following 12 months. This finding represents an important step towards the early identification of older adults at increased risk of falling within the podiatry practice.
