Trade journal article: Recognising falls in good time

To bring the results of our research into the development of a predictive model for falls among older people living at home within the podiatry practice to the attention of Dutch podiatrists, an article on this study was published in Podosophia. This provided podiatrists with a practical insight into the development and potential application of the predictive model for falls among older people living at home.

Research by Danique van Gulick and her colleagues at Amsterdam UMC shows that four factors that are relatively easy to assess – history of falls, a feeling of instability, walking speed and toe strength – can be used to estimate the risk of a fall in the next 12 months.

The publication in the trade journal for Dutch podiatrists contributes to the transfer of scientific knowledge into everyday podiatric practice and encourages further focus on a proactive approach to fall prevention amongst older people.
