Journal article: Unknown, unloved. Delays in the diagnostic process for tarsal coalition
- Date:
- August 2018

In short
An article has been published in the specialist journal Podosophia on the diagnostic pathway for patients with tarsal coalition. The research was conducted and reported by our researcher Danique van Gulick, in collaboration with fellow researchers from the Haga Hospital and Fontys University of Applied Sciences.
The qualitative research shows that patients often live with symptoms for a long time before the correct diagnosis is made. Timely recognition of characteristic signs and appropriate referral can help to shorten the diagnostic process. The research thus emphasises the important role that the podiatrist can play in recognising a possible tarsal coalition and referring patients to secondary care in good time.
