Journal article: A predictive model for forecasting falls in podiatry practice

Our research into predicting falls among older people living at home has also been featured in the British trade journal *The Podiatrist*. This brings the research to the attention of podiatrists in the United Kingdom and beyond.

The study, carried out by researcher Danique van Gulick and fellow researchers at Amsterdam UMC, shows that podiatrists can use four easily assessable factors – history of falls, a feeling of instability, walking speed and toe strength – can assess the risk of a fall in the coming 12 months.

The focus on the research in *The Podiatrist* emphasises the international relevance of these findings. It highlights the role of podiatrists in the early detection of an increased risk of falls. In this way, scientific research can contribute to the further development of podiatric practice and to the prevention of falls among older people.
