Amsterdam UMC
Rondom works in partnership with Amsterdam UMC as a research partner. Through this collaboration, we bring practice and science closer together. Drawing on our day-to-day healthcare practice, we contribute ideas on relevant research questions, share our practical knowledge and facilitate research by involving clients. Researchers at Amsterdam UMC carry out the scientific research and translate the results into new insights. In this way, we work together to ensure that scientific knowledge is aligned with practice and contributes directly to better care. In addition, one of our researchers is affiliated with Amsterdam UMC as an external PhD candidate and is pursuing her PhD at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). As part of this PhD programme, she conducts independent scientific research into topics that contribute to the further development of foot care.

Research and practice
Together, we are working on various research projects and research networks that contribute to better prevention, treatment and support for people with foot problems. Some examples include:
- Implementation of foot skin temperature measurements in patients’ homes, in collaboration with researchers from Amsterdam UMC within the Homeland Academic Workplace.
- A multicentre randomised controlled trial (RCT) into the effects of the orthopaedic slipper.
- The development of the support tool ‘Working together for appropriate preventive foot care’.
In addition, our PhD student, together with researchers from Amsterdam UMC, is conducting research that contributes to the further development of foot care. This research focuses on:
- the development and validation of a fall risk model;
- research into the reliability of pressure measurement systems;
- a systematic literature review of the effect of foot and ankle orthoses on balance, gait pattern and falls in people with neuropathy.
Some of these studies are still ongoing, whilst others have now been completed. The results contribute to new insights and help to further improve healthcare.
Applying knowledge in healthcare
Our collaboration with the Amsterdam UMC It is not just about conducting research, but above all about applying new knowledge in day-to-day care. By translating research findings into practice, we ensure that clients and care providers benefit from the latest insights.
In this way, we bridge the gap between science and practice. This enables us to continue developing our care and to increasingly meet the needs of those who rely on our expertise.
