Mission and vision on research
Our mission is to use scientific and practice-oriented research to develop and apply knowledge that contributes to better care, improved health and a healthier society. We investigate issues arising from everyday practice and translate the findings into practical insights, working methods and innovations. In doing so, we focus not only on symptoms, conditions and treatments, but also on positive health, functioning, behaviour, lifestyle, vitality, prevention and collaboration.
We believe that research has the greatest impact when science and practice are continuously linked. That is why we strive for a learning health and care system in which the knowledge and experiences of people, healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, data experts and other partners come together. In this system, questions arising from practice lead to research, and new insights are applied responsibly to promote health, improve care and accelerate innovation. In doing so, we investigate not only whether something works, but also for whom, under what circumstances and how it can be applied sustainably.
Through our research, we aim to offer appropriate and person-centred support to people both with and without healthcare needs. At the same time, we help professionals make evidence-based decisions and support our partners in developing and evaluating relevant solutions. From a societal perspective, we aim to contribute to accessible, appropriate and future-proof healthcare. Our ambition goes beyond treating existing symptoms: we want to maintain and improve health, identify risks at an earlier stage and, where possible, prevent health problems from arising or worsening. In this way, we are contributing to the shift from reactive care to proactive health.
