Research into adherence to treatment among rheumatism patients

Podiatrists make an important contribution to the treatment of foot-related complaints in people with a rheumatic condition. The effectiveness of this treatment is partly determined by the extent to which patients follow the treatment advice given. It is therefore important to gain an understanding of the factors that influence adherence to treatment. This knowledge can be used to further optimise support for self-management within podiatry care.

The aim of the Adherence study is to gain an understanding of the extent to which patients with a rheumatic condition and foot and/or ankle complaints adhere to their podiatrist’s treatment advice.

This study is being carried out by researchers at Amsterdam UMC. Two questionnaires have been developed for the Adherence study: one for podiatrists and one for patients. The questionnaire for podiatrists is used to determine what treatment advice is given, whilst the patient questionnaire provides insight into the extent to which this advice is followed. The research questions will be answered on the basis of the data from approximately 200 completed questionnaires.

Rondom is supporting the Adherence study with patient recruitment. Within Rondom, various patients with rheumatism have been invited to take part in this study.
