Maintaining structure in the household
Do you find that your household is quickly becoming chaotic? Perhaps you know what needs to be done, but you can’t seem to get started. Or you start on several tasks at once and then lose track of what you’re doing. This can cause a great deal of anxiety, especially if you feel as though you’re constantly falling behind. Structure in your household helps to keep your home liveable and peaceful. But maintaining that structure isn’t always easy – particularly when you’re tired, stressed, in pain, feeling overwhelmed or experiencing changes in your health. At times like that, even routine tasks can suddenly feel much more daunting.

What do you notice?
Difficulties with maintaining order in the home can manifest themselves in various ways.
You may, for example, notice that:
- you don’t know where to start;
- tasks remain undone;
- you start many things but finish few;
- clearing up seems to be necessary time and time again;
- if you forget your appointments or household chores;
- you are easily distracted;
- you’re worrying about everything that still needs to be done;
- you feel ashamed of the mess;
- you experience little peace and quiet at home.
Sometimes, just thinking about the housework takes up a lot of energy. It can feel as though you’re constantly busy, even when there’s not much going on.
