Mobility aids
Are you wondering whether an aid could help you with walking, standing or getting out and about? Perhaps you’re thinking of a walking stick, a rollator, a wheelchair, a mobility scooter or another type of aid. That can feel like a big step. Many people wait a long time, because an aid makes it obvious that they’re not managing quite as well as before. Yet an aid can actually give you freedom. It can help you get further, move more safely and take part in activities again. It is important that the aid fits properly and is used safely.

What do you notice?
An aid may be needed if moving around becomes increasingly difficult.
You may, for example, notice that:
- you don’t have to walk as far;
- you are afraid of falling;
- you often seek support;
- avoids your activities;
- you get tired quickly;
- you experience pain when walking or standing;
- you become more dependent on others;
- you no longer dare to go out on your own;
- You are unsure which aid is appropriate.
Sometimes you may already have an aid, but you don’t use it very often. This may be because it feels awkward or doesn’t suit your situation very well.
