Fall risk assessment
Falls are more common than you might think. The risk of falling can increase, particularly as you get older.
Do you ever feel unsteady when walking? Or have you fallen or nearly fallen in the past year? If so, you may be at increased risk of falling.
A fall risk assessment enables the podiatrist to assess whether you are at an increased risk of falling. The podiatrist can also use the fall risk assessment to identify ways in which your risk of falling can be reduced.

Abbreviated fall risk assessment
During the podiatry assessment, the podiatrist always carries out a brief fall risk screening for clients aged 65 and over. This test takes a few minutes and consists of:
- a few questions
- a walking test
- a muscle strength test
With this test, the podiatrist assesses whether there is an increased risk of falling.
Has the test shown that your risk of falling is indeed increased? If so, we recommend a comprehensive fall risk assessment. The podiatrist will arrange a new appointment with you for this assessment.
