Rheumatic foot
Rheumatism is a collective term for more than 100 conditions affecting the joints, muscles and tendons. In the Netherlands, more than 2.3 million people suffer from rheumatism.
Many people with rheumatism also experience problems with their feet. Around 70 to 80 per cent of people with rheumatism eventually develop foot problems.
Rheumatism can cause the feet to change shape. As a result, ordinary shoes sometimes no longer fit properly. Walking can then become painful.

What is it?
Rheumatism can cause your feet to change shape. For example, due to deformities or a change in the position of the foot. As a result, shoes often do not fit as well. This can lead to pressure sores, calluses, corns and minor wounds.
The change in the position of your feet may also cause you to walk differently. This can lead to problems with your knees, hips or back.
