Complaints following surgery on the feet, ankles, knees and hips
Post-traumatic and/or post-operative conditions of the lower limbs are symptoms or conditions affecting the feet, ankles, legs, knees and hips that are present or develop following surgery. You will be referred to a podiatrist if the symptoms persist for longer than usual.
It is important to first investigate whether the symptoms are caused by an abnormal foot position or foot function, or whether they are an isolated issue. The underlying cause must be addressed and treated in conjunction with treatment of the condition itself.
The expected outcome depends on the condition and the extent of tissue damage (skin, bones, joints, muscles, nerves, blood vessels). The aim is to achieve optimal load distribution across the feet, ankles, knees, legs and hips.
