Holvoet
A high-arched foot has a high instep and a pronounced hollow on the inside of the foot.
What is it?
This is also known as: pes cavus/pes cavo varus. Pes cavus/pes cavo refers to the type of foot, in this case a high-arched foot. This is characterised by a high instep and a pronounced arch on the inner side of the foot. People with pes cavus may experience pain in a wide variety of places on the foot, usually on the outside of the foot. In addition, claw toes or hammer toes are common, as is pain under the forefoot.
A treatment
The treatment involves the manufacture of a podiatric insole to provide compensation, relief and pressure redistribution. Often, there is shortening of the calf muscles. In such cases, stretching exercises are also prescribed.
The result
The expected outcome is that the flat foot will remain, but the symptoms will improve! In children, whether permanent correction is necessary depends on the severity of the condition. If a neuropathic cause is suspected, you will be referred back to your GP.
