Inward ankle sprain
You may notice that your ankle suddenly rolls inwards. You will often feel immediate pain on the outside of the ankle, and walking may then feel difficult or unsteady.
With this type of sprain, the foot rolls inwards. As a result, the ligaments on the outside of the ankle are stretched or damaged. This is also known as an inversion injury.

What is it?
In the case of an inward ankle sprain, the ligaments on the outside of the ankle are strained. Sometimes this involves only stretching. In other cases, the ligaments may be partially or completely damaged.
Even after recovery, the ankle may remain unstable. As a result, you may sprain your ankle again more easily or continue to experience pain on the outside of the ankle.
