Wear and tear (osteoarthritis)
Wear and tear can occur in one or more joints at the same time. In this condition, the layer of cartilage has partially or completely worn away, causing the bones in a joint to rub directly against one another and move less smoothly than when the cartilage is still present. This can cause pain.
What is it?
Wear and tear can occur in one or more joints at the same time. In this condition, the layer of cartilage has partially or completely worn away, meaning that the bones in a joint rub directly against one another and cannot move as smoothly as when the cartilage is still present. This can cause pain. The symptoms associated with this condition are pain. The pain usually occurs when weight is placed on a joint, such as whilst walking or standing.
A treatment
Treatment for wear and tear involves relieving the affected joint or joints as much as possible by means of podiatric insoles or an orthosis (toe splint).
