Pain on the inside of the knee
This is also known as: pes anserinus insertion tendinopathy. The pes anserinus is an attachment site for the inner thigh muscles and is situated on the inner side of the knee; at this point, three tendons converge and then continue as a single tendon towards the attachment on the lower leg.
Symptoms that may occur include pain and slight swelling on the shin, on the inside or front of the knee, and below the knee. This condition is common amongst swimmers and long-distance runners, and can also occur as a complication of knee osteoarthritis.
Treatment involves addressing the cause; the foot often rolls inwards. The cause is addressed through corrective podiatric insoles and advice on (sports) footwear.
The expected outcome is a reduction in symptoms, up to and including becoming symptom-free.
