Struggling with change
Do you find that change quickly throws you off balance? Perhaps you find it difficult when appointments don’t go to plan, your health changes or your day doesn’t go as planned. Some people can adapt easily. For others, change takes a lot of energy and causes a great deal of stress.
It is not unusual to find change difficult. Change requires adaptation, perspective and trust. If you are already tired, in pain or experiencing a lot of stress, even a small change can feel like a big one. This can affect your work, home life, studies and social activities.

What do you notice?
Difficulty with change can manifest itself in thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
You may, for example, notice that:
- you feel unsettled when plans change;
- you think a lot about what might happen;
- you have difficulty changing gears;
- you react angrily or sadly;
- you would prefer to avoid making changes;
- requires a lot of preparation;
- you’re having trouble sleeping because of a new situation;
- you are finding it difficult to adapt to new routines;
