Podo Manual Therapy
Podo manual therapy of the foot is a technique in which such blockages in the foot are relieved using a manipulation technique. In some cases, a blockage in one or more areas of the foot contributes to the foot not functioning properly. This has a negative effect on the gait pattern.
Manipulation technique in podiatry and manual therapy
In the manipulation technique, the stuck joint is ‘loosened’ using a quick, short movement. Manipulation is usually used to support another form of podiatric therapy, such as taping or podiatric insoles.
Podiatrist and podiatric manual therapy
A podiatrist is géén manual therapist and will therefore limit themselves to manipulation of the foot, ankle and, occasionally, the lower leg or knee. Podiatrists who use this technique have completed the post-HBO course “Manual Therapy in Podiatric Practice”.
Consultation with other experts
With their knowledge of podomanual therapy, the podiatrist can also consult more specifically (with a manual therapist, orthomanual doctor, osteopath, etc.) and advise on further investigation or treatment.
