Pain in the arch of the foot/sole of the foot
This is also known as: midtarsal overload of the plantar ligaments. A ligament is a band of connective tissue surrounding a joint. These are flat or more or less cylindrical bundles that run in a single main direction. The primary function of ligaments is to guide movement. Ligaments will also restrict movement, but only if the muscles surrounding the joint are insufficient.
When the ligaments on the underside of the foot become overloaded, pain is felt in the arch of the foot or the sole.
The treatment involves addressing the cause (often the foot tilting inwards). The most commonly used treatment for this condition is corrective podiatric insoles. In addition, advice on footwear is provided. In cases of severe symptoms, taping is often used as well.
The expected outcome is to be symptom-free.
