Dislocation/dislodgement of the toes
Also known as: chronic (sub)luxation. A luxation, or dislocation, is when a joint slips out of its socket. The joint capsule is often damaged in the process, and the ligaments surrounding the joint may also be damaged. Sometimes the joint surface and/or cartilage are damaged as well. It is particularly painful when walking.
Treatment initially involves checking whether the symptoms are caused by footwear. In the acute phase, the toe can be taped; if necessary, it can be permanently splinted using a (silicone) orthosis. In some cases, a podiatric insole may also be fitted to improve the foot’s gait.
The expected result is good and pain-free.
