Achilles tendon disorders
You may notice that the back of your heel or Achilles tendon becomes tender whilst walking, climbing stairs or exercising. The symptoms often start gradually. At first, the tendon may just feel a little stiff. But later on, moving around can become increasingly painful.
The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel and is used with almost every step. If the tendon is subjected to prolonged or excessive strain, irritation or overuse may occur.

What is it?
Achillodynia refers to pain in the Achilles tendon. The pain is often located a few centimetres above where the tendon attaches to the heel bone, but can also be closer to the heel.
The Achilles tendon can become irritated or overloaded. Sometimes the tendon becomes thicker or stiffer. In many cases, this is not a genuine inflammation, but rather a tendon that has been subjected to too much strain or used too frequently.
