'Snapping hip' (coxa saltans)
‘Snapping hip’ literally means ‘a hip that snaps’. You feel something pop or snap on the outside of the thigh or hip. It is a common complaint amongst sportspeople and ballet dancers.
A treatment
The treatment involves addressing the cause. It is often the result of incorrect foot alignment or an abnormal gait pattern. Corrective podiatric insoles can offer a solution. In the case of a leg length discrepancy, a heel lift will also be used.
The expected result is reasonable to good.
